The Hon Mr Justice Martin Spencer

Born, Newcastle upon Tyne, Educated at Ampleforth College, North Yorkshire, and Hertford College Oxford (MA, BCL). Married 1977. 3 children, 6 grandchildren Called to the Bar in 1979 (Inner Temple). 1979-1980: Danish Government scholar at Copenhagen University, Institute of Criminal Science. Translated the Danish Penal Code into English. Co-author of Introduction to Danish Criminal Law. 1980-81: pupil to Gordon Langley at Fountain Court chambers. 1981: joined chambers at 4 Paper Buildings (later named Hailsham Chambers), Inner Temple. Specialised in medical law and in particular birth injuries to children, as well as brain and spinal injuries in general. 2000: Appointed Recorder on Midland Circuit. 2003: appointed Queen's Counsel. 2017: appointed High Court Judge, assigned to Queen's Bench Division. Sings with St Albans Bach Choir, St Albans Celebration Choir and local branch of Royal School of Church Music. Occasionally plays piano and cello Other interests: sport and bridge. Season ticket holder at Tottenham Hotspur FC.
